Job losses blamed on house slump

A timber firm has announced plans to reduce almost half its workforce due to a downturn in house building.

Stewart Milne Timber Systems, based in Witney, said it has started consultations with staff to "realign its business to meet market demands".

It said there were likely to be 74 job losses from 191 employees.

Chief executive Stewart Milne, said: "No-one in our sector is immune from the downturn. The ongoing market conditions have impacted on us."

The company said it remains fully committed to its operation in Witney, which is in Conservative leader David Cameron's constituency, and is offering financial advice and counselling to staff.
